FAQ

HOW MANY DB CAN YOU EXPECT TO DAMP THE NOISE IN AN ENGINE ROOM?

There is no clear-cut answer. The result depends on the type of noise to damp and the soundproofing or sound-absorbing materials used.
Factors such as air gaps, resonance sounds and various vibrations have a major impact on the perceived noise damping.
We are happy to discuss your sound problem with you, after which we offer to advise on which types of materials and which solutions should be optimally recommended for your particular job.

WHAT TYPE OF FOAM INSULATION IS BEST TO USE IN A CABIN?

This depends largely on the type of noise to damp. It depends on which frequencies affect the cabin (high or low frequency noise), or whether the noise is amplified by associated vibrations and resonances.

If you want to create the optimal cabin comfort, typically 2 materials (layers) are installed.

• A heavy foil is mounted directly on the metal surfaces, eliminating vibrations and structure-borne noise.
• As interior material, a good sound absorber is used, typically a B028 PU foam, with a suitable surface, film or textile.

WHAT TYPE OF FOAM INSULATION IS BEST TO USE WHEN YOU WANT TO ENCAPSULATE NOISE?

A lot of production equipment often makes more noise than is permissible, and acoustic control in the room is not enough. Often you have to shield (encapsulate) the noise.

Noise encapsulating is typically desired in connection with, e.g., a generator, a CNC machine or other production equipment.

The soundproofing materials recommended are, e.g., a Bonded Foam, which has a density of 130 kg/m3.

If materials that can withstand moisture or oil splashes are required, a bonded foam is typically used, applied to a thin film that is easy to wipe off and keeps the foam core dry.

IS THERE A SPECIAL MATERIAL THAT CAN BE USED FOR SOUNDPROOFING THE ENGINE ROOM OF A BOAT AND AT THE SAME TIME MEET THE FIRE REQUIREMENTS OF THE AUTHORITIES?

Yes, B6 Akustik produces 2 specially developed products, which are approved according to ISO 4589-3, as well as fire-retardant; see US standard FMVSS-302 (both approved by Det Norske Veritas ISO 9094-1 and ISO 9094).

Type 1 - B6 ISOFLOC:
Regenerated granular foam 100 kg/m3, fire retardant and with a strong aluminium foil and strong adhesive.

Type 2 - B6 ISOBOAT:
Fire-retardant PU foam material with a heavy foil in the middle and aluminium foil on top.

CAN A NORMAL FOAM PRODUCT BE COATED TO MAKE IT DIRT AND OIL REPELLENT?

Yes, B6 Akustik stocks many different films, e.g., PUR and ALU, which we laminate onto the foam in our own factory, making it dirt, moisture and oil repellent.

In addition to the film solutions, the foam can also be supplied with an impregnation (seal), so that the material becomes water-repellent but still transparent to the sound waves. Furthermore, B6 Akustik can offer to supply the foam product with an edge seal, either as a film or rubber skin solution.

CAN THE SOUNDPROOFING PRODUCTS BE DELIVERED READY FOR INSTALLATION IN MY CABIN, MACHINE, ETC.?

Yes, B6 works with CNC-controlled waterjet cutting machines, so we can deliver your materials cut to your exact measurements (according to custom CAD drawings).

The materials can also be supplied with mounting adhesive on the back and film on the front - 100% ready for mounting.
